World Cup and Masters

THE finest billiards players of the world gather in Manila this weekend to see action in a special two-in-one tournament that offers a total prize of more than $300,000.
Dennis Orcollo stakes his World Pool Masters against 16 marquee players at the SM City North EDSA from Sept. 3-5, after which, the no. 1 team event in world pool – the World Cup of Pool – takes place the following day until Sept. 11 at the Block Atrium also at the SM City North EDSA, with the Chinese pair of Li Hewen and Fu Jianbo returning here to defend their title. This is a single-elimination format. All matches are winner-breaks, race to eight.
Here are the first round match-ups for the Masters:


In the Team Event, Canada has John Morra and Jason Klatt taking on the nation of Malta, Tony Drago and Alex Borg.
Winner in the World Pool Masters gets the top purse of $20,000 out of the total $66,000, while the champion in the World Cup of Pool receives $60,000 of the $250,000 at stake in the tournament. Check out Matchroom Pool for more details.
