Vito Takes out Logan in Quebec Ontario Challenge
Dec 1, 2001
On Saturday, Dec 1st at Shooters Billiards in North York, 76 great players showed up to compete in the third Ontario event for the Ontario/Quebec Challenge Tour. The caliber of play seems to get stronger in every event. This non-handicapped format seems to bring out the best in all the participants. We need to see more tournaments of this type in the future.
Only 16 players would make it to the Sunday to fight for the cash. The pressure got higher as each match went on. The room full of spectators watched Al Logan and Vito Puopolo shoot their way to the A-Side finals. Al secured his spot in the final with a convincing 11-3 win over Vito. Vito Puopolo would now have to move to the B-side to face Andrew Attard. Andrew had just come off a nice win against the strong player from London, Sam Siolas. Vito managed to get his chance for revenge against Al Logan knocking Andrew out of the tournament with a score of 9-7. Andrew would have to settle for third place.
In the finals we had the two top point leaders for the Ontario points race. Al Logan finished 2nd in Drummondville, Quebec a week ago. Vito Puopolo also finished 2nd in his last event in Oshawa, Ontario. Both players were hungry for the title. It was a well-fought match for both players with Vito pulling off a 13-10 victory. Congratulations Vito!
