St. Johann, Austria: Nick van den Berg (NED), EPBF Player of the Year 2012, has just won his spot in the single elimination stage of the final 32 players at the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open with a 9:6 victory over Mustapha Trabelsi (TUN).

Trabelsi was completely unheralded but had already achieved two victories in this tournament. That should have confused van den Berg at least, to meet a player in the winner's qualification round that he has never seen or heard of before. And Trabelsi proved to be dangerous. He sticked close to van den Berg at all times and never allowed the Dutch to gain too much of an advantage over him.
In fact, van den Berg needed all his experience and focus in order to stay sharp and snatch the match with 9:6 from Trabelsi. "I never heard of him before but he played some good pool", said van den Berg after the match. He is now through to the single elimination stage of the event which will begin at 21:00 CET. Other notable results include BCA Hall of Famer Ralf Souquet (GER) losing to Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) with 5:9.
The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). For further information and reference please go to the federation website www.eurotouronline.eu or contact our press office.
