Van den Berg secures his spot in the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open
Dec 12, 2014
Nick van den Berg (NED), current #1 ranked player of the Euro-Tour series, made his way to the final 16 players of the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open. He made it to the winner’s qualification round where he met Oliver Ortmann (GER). Ortmann turned out to be a tough opponent for van den Berg and won the match with 9:7. That sent van den Berg to the loser’s side where he had to face Wojciech Szewczyk (POL). In that match, van den Berg remained victorious and won clearly 9:6 to get a spot in the round of the final 32 players. There he met another Polish player, Woytek Trajdos (POL). That match turned out to be a thriller with a lucky 9:8 end for van den Berg. Being among the last 16 players of the event, he will definitely be #1 in the Euro-Tour rankings after the event. If worse comes to worst for him, he will have to share his victory with Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE). The Greek is still in and if he wins the event and van den Berg loses in the next round, they would be tied with their ranking points. It will be interesting to follow. Nick van den Berg will play Kasper Kristoffersen (DEN) tomorrow while Ekonomopoulos has an appointment with Albin Ouschan (AUT).
Another high class match in the round of the last 16 players will be the clash of the former World Champions from Germany, Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann. Souquet has lost his first match in the tournament and then won all the long way through the loser’s side to get himself a spot in the single elimination round of the last 16 players. Ortmann has had no defeat yet. He made his way through the winner’s side.
Many great players are still in to have a shot at the title, such as "The Terminator" Niels Feijen (NED) who ousted Mark Gray (GBR) in the last round with 9:2, running out all of his nine racks! "The Tornado" Tony Drago (MLT) is also still alive in the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open. He eliminated Christian Sparrenloev-Fischer (SWE) with 9:6 and will now face David Alcaide (ESP) in the next round.
The tournament continues on Saturday morning at 10:00 CET. The women’s Euro-Tour event starts on Saturday morning at 09:00. Up to eight tables will be in the live stream and can be viewed at www.kozoom.com. All results and info about the event can be found at www.eurotouronline.com
