Tomasz Kaplan eliminates Siekkinen for a spot in the last 32

In a tough match in the single elimination round of the final 64 player’s at the Dynamic Billard European Championships in Vale do Lobo, Portugal, Tomasz Kaplan (POL) ousted Jani Siekkinen (FIN) with 9:5.
Kaplan had to take the detour over the loser’s side where he eliminated Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) earlier today. He was then drawn against Jani Siekkinen. The match started equal for both players. After 4 racks, the score was 2:2. Then, Kaplan was able to achieve a 3-point advantage over Siekkinen, taking a 5:2 lead. The Finish took a time-out and came back with fresh motivation. He won two racks and got to 4:5, before Kaplan won the next three racks to get on the hill with 8:5. That broke Siekkinen’s neck. He won one more rack before Kaplan closed the book on the match to win with 9:5.
Earlier today, Andreas Roschkowsky (GER) overpowered John Torres (SUI) by a hair’s breadth with 9:8. Dzimitry Chuprov (BLR) surprisingly won against Tomas Larsson (SWE) with 9:8 and made his way to the single elimination stage of the final 64 players where he lost to Miquel Silva (POR) with 6:9. Defending Champion Niels Feijen (NED) was with one foot in the grave already. He was at 8:8 with Fabio petroni (ITA) when he was able to win the deciding rack and proceed to the next round with a 9:8 victory over Petroni. Serge Voice (ROM) ousted Radoslaw Babica (POL) from the tournament with a 9:7 victory in the single elimination. Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) managed to remain victorious over Mario He (AUT) with a result of 9:4. In an all-Russian clash, Ruslan Chinakhov defeated his teammate Konstantin Stepanov with 9:3. Alexander Kazakis (GRE) send the „Czech Attack“ Roman Hybler (CZE) home with 9:4.
In the women’s division, defending Champion Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) is through to the sin glee elimination round. She won today over Veronika Hubrtova (CZE) with 7:4 in the winner’s qualification round. She’ll be joined by Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) who clearly smashed Ana Mazhirina (RU)S with 7:2 in the same round. Wesolowska’s teammate Czuprynska (POL) took down Kristina Tkach (RUS) with 7:3.
In the wheelchair division, Jouni Tahti (FIN) and Fred Dinsmore (IRE) are both already on the loser’s side. In loser’s round 2, they both won their matches. Tahti eliminated Eduard Karamatic (CRO) 7:2 while Dinsmore defeated Daniel Lee (GBR) 7:3. Dinsmore is playing Henrik Larsson (SWE) tonight for a spot in the quarter-finals. Tahti will have to deal with Manfred Gattinger (GER).
Tonight, the player’s party will take place. On that occasion, the EPBF Player of the Year 2014 will be disclosed to the public.
The tournament will continue tomorrow at 11:00 local time with men’s and women’s 9-ball matches. The final matches in all three divisions will be played at 17:30 local time.
