Timmermans Triumphant in Shooters’ Amateur Finale

Apr 22, 2016

On April 16 and 17th, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto held its 9-Ball Amateur Tour Finale. After 8 successful Amateur events, the Finale was highly anticipated by the players because it included an added bonus of 15% held back from each of the 8 events and additional added money on top! 56 qualified players came out to compete for massive prize payout larger than $8,000 including Calcutta. The top 12 would be paid out, making competition that much more intense.
After an intense day of 9-Ball action, 44 players were sent home, with the remaining 12 players guaranteed to be in the money. The 12 players that returned the following day were:
A-Side
John Timmermans vs Jehlar Fernandez
Oscar Zapata vs Nathan Clarke
B-Side
Rob Hall vs Nick Blancher
Kevin Lazaro vs Eric Vanderlugt
Isaac Ramos vs Ian Argue
Stefane Godinho vs Chad Bishop
Oscar defeated Nathan 5-3 and John edged Jehlar in a close hill-hill battle 9-5, and the hot-seat match was set up between John and Oscar. Over on the B-Side, action began with Rob and Isaac cruising past their opponents 9-1 and 8-1 respectively. Next up, Rob would face Jehlar and Isaac would face Nathan to welcome them to the B-Side. Rob and Isaac continued their run, allowing their next opponents to only win 1 game.
Back over on the A-Side, John had no trouble getting by Oscar, winning the hot-seat match 9-1. Oscar would then face the winner between Rob and Isaac. After losing his first match, Isaac came all the way to the B-Side semifinals to face Rob. Unfortunately for Isaac, Rob would end his run by defeating him 9-5. Rob’s next task was Oscar, who was shooting terrific throughout the weekend. Oscar pulled off a great performance, beating Rob 5-4 and earning a second chance to win the tournament on the A-side against John.
John Timmermans continued his tournament domination, defeating Oscar Zapata once more, 9-3. John took home $2,700 and claimed Shooters’ 9-Ball Amateur Finale Title. Congratulations for a great showing in both days John. Oscar’s great performance should also be recognized, as he came in second.
