Team Gold goes to Germany

Aug 10, 2013

Revenge taken in a rematch from last year

Sarajevo, Bosnia & Hercegovina: Team Germany just took the Gold Medal in the team division, defeating team Portugal with 3:0.
Portugal has taken the title in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In the senior's division, they are probably the most successful team in the recent years. Last year, they took the final over team Germany. So the Germans had a score to settle with them...
The matches lineup was as follows:

Portugal
v
Germany

Correia
v
Creter
10-ball

Torres
v
Wirsbitzki
8-ball

Pereira
v
Schwab
9-ball

Team Germany celebrating their victory
Team Portugal definitely was favored in this contest. Pereira alone had already taken two titles this week. And Correia also has multiple titles under his belt. But things did not happen as expected. In the 10-ball match, Christophe Creter hit Henrique Correia like a ton of bricks. He played perfect pool and made Correia stay in his chair most of the time. In the end, the German won the match with a clear 7:1 result. At that time, Wirsbitzki and Schwab were both on the hill in their respective matches. Wirsbitzki lead 6:4 while Schwab was 8:4 in advance. A surprise was in the air. And it happened: Martin Schwab pocketed the final 9-ball in his match with Manuel Pereira and brought the German team the Gold medal. This year, team Portugal will have to settle for the Silver Medal.
