Dynamic Billard European Championships Youth have come to an end
Sarajevo, Bosnia & Hercegovina: With two surprise winners, the Dynamic Billard European Youth Championships 2013 have come to an end.
The junior's final between Poland and Finland was a small sensation in itself. Everybody would have expected the German team in the finals, but the Finish juniors ended their hopes in the
semi-final. Poland was expected to be in the finals. In straight pool, current European Champion Sebastian Batkowski (POL) had to deal with Aapo Virrankoski (FIN). Batkowski lead the match all the way and would have probably won it but the game was not finished. The reason for that were the other two matches. Jesse Kivelä (FIN) handed a doughnut to Maciej Witkowski (POL) in 8-ball, creaming him 7:0. Jesse Waltteri Huttunen (FIN) had a 9-ball match with Pawel Kaczmarek (POL) that turned up an down with the better end for Huttunen. Kaczmarek took a 10: and 2:1 lead; then Huttunen took a 4:2 lead. In the 5th rack, Kaczmarek played a good safety shot on the 1-ball and snookered Huttunen. The Finish hit the 1-ball over a rail and occasionally pocketed the 9- ball. That gave a 5:2 lead to Huttunen. Instead of making use of his momentum then, he played some careless shots and allowed Kaczmarek to get to 5:4. Both players seemed to get a bit nervous since the missed shots became mire frequent. At 6:5, Huttunen adjusted to the situation better and took the next two racks, winning the match 8:5. This provided the second point for team Finland...
The Dutch Pupils:Jan van Lierop, Cyriel Ledoux andKaylash Persad (left to right)
In the pupil's team final, team Lithuania took on team Netherlands. Both teams were not necessarily expected in the final. The Dutch team ousted the Germans while team Lithuania sent team Russia home. Unexpectedly, the match also had to be decided by the straight pool encounter. Jan van Lierop (NED) took the 9-ball off Kestutis Zadeikis (LIT) with 7:4. Pijus Labutis (LIT) won his 8-ball match over Cyriel Ledoux (NED) with 6:2. So the decision had to come in the straight pool match between Remigijus Kavalnis (LIT) and Persad Kaylash (NED). Kaylash dominated the straight pool match and left no chance for Kavalnis. He won 75:43 in the end and brought the Gold Medal home to The Netherlands.
