Steve Mizerak Championship Day 1

Sep 16, 2011

The Steve Mizerak kicked off from Hammer Heads Billiard Lounge in Holiday, FL with a star-studded field of 58 players. The blind draw once again drew some great opening round matches for the spectators. The highlight of round 1 was “Iron” Mike Davis, Hammer Head’s house pro, against “Rocket” Rodney Morris, Capone’s Billiards house pro. Morris coming off a great victory at Turning Stone, seemed poised to make a run at hi second Mizerak Championship title. Davis jumped to an early lead of 2-0, not giving Morris any chances of sinking a ball. Morris came back to tie the score at 2-2, prompting a fierce back and forth exchange of racks. At hill-hill, it was Davis who would pull out the victory and send Morris left.
Morris would then face Paul Song on the one-loss side. Song would play “the best pool I’ve ever played on Tour,” and eliminate Morris with a score of 9-2. Morris, clearly disappointed, recognized Song’s strong play and would not be able to claim another Mizerak Championship to his list of accomplishments
Notable Day 2 match-ups on the winner’s included: Johnny Archer vs. Ernesto Dominguez; Santos Sambajon Jr. vs. Alex Pagulayan; Corey Deuel vs. Shane Van Boening; Mike Davis vs. Dennis Hatch and Earl Strickland vs. Hunter Lombardo. Players relegated to the one-loss side include: Mike Dechaine, Adam Smith, Jesse Engle, Jeremy Sossei and Marc Vidal.
