Smooth sailing for Eriksson at the Dynamic Billiard European Championships
Aug 9, 2012
Early rounds of 9-ball with surprising results
Peter Eriksson (SWE) is one of 16 players which have already secured a spot in the round of the last 32 players in the 9-ball competition of the Dynamic Billiards European Championships for Seniors and Ladies. In his first round, Eriksson met Pascal Budo (BEL) who is known to be a tough opponent. But it was not Budo’s match. Eriksson did not allow any great performance from Budo. After six rack, Budo still had not scored and was trailing 0:6 to Eriksson. There was just no way that Budo could find how to stop his Swedish opponent. Budo won the 7th, the 9th and the 10th rack and that was all he cloud do. Eriksson secured the victory by taking the match 9:3 off Budo.
Peter Eriksson (SWE)
Eriksson’s next opponent was newly crowned straight pool champion Rene Peeters (NED). Peeters had defeated Eriksson’s teammate Peter Akesson (SWE) with 9:7 in his first match. As in the previous round, the match went along pretty one-sided. Eriksson had an 8:3 lead over Peeters before the Dutch senior tried to get back into the match. But it was too late. He could get to 5:8 before Eriksson closed the book on the match, winning 9:5. Eriksson will await a player in the round of the final 32 players who will be drawn into his match from the qualifiers of the loser’s side.
In the ladies division, Katja Kahl, Wienke Thamsen, Susanne Wessel (all GER) and Ann- Sofie Löfgren (SWE) have won their first two matches and will play the 9-ball winner’s qualification round tomorrow at 13:00 CET. The tournament will continue today with the quarter-finals of the 8-ball individual competition.
