Shooters’ Amateur 9-Ball Tour Event 5 Claimed by Chris Lee
Jan 6, 2016
To ring in the New Year, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted its first tournament of 2016. It was Shooters’ Amateur 9-Ball event #5 on January 2/3, which saw a full field of 64 players registering (and 3 unable to attend). This 9-ball event welcomed players SL 4-9 to compete for a $2,200 prize pool and $1,950 Calcutta. Even with many tournaments going on around the GTA today, the amount of players who showed up for this tournament was very impressive. With such a big field of strong players, the tournament was expected to be a long 2-day grind.
After almost 8 hours of play in Shooters' Amateur 9 Ball Tour, the field of 61 dwindled down to 8 players on the A-Side and 16 on the B-Side.
The A-Side quarterfinals would determine the A-Side semi-finalists that would return Sunday at 1 pm:
Jun Briones def Gene Chipongian
Rob Hall def Marius Nakas
Chris Lee def Bernie Fulford
Carlin Sanderson def Tom Paschert
After day 1, there were 8 players remaining on the B-Side to go along with the 4 on the A-Side. After some good matches and a tough hill-hill match between Rob Hall and Jun Briones, the A-side finalists were Jun B and Chris L, with Dean McNaughton facing Rob Hall and Nathan Clarke facing Carlin Sanderson on the B-Side.
Chris Lee defeated Jun Briones to earn his spot in the hot seat and waited for the winner of the B-Side. Nathan C defeated Jun B hill-hill and advanced to face Chris Lee in the finals of the Amateur weekend.
After two days of competitive pool, Chris Lee defeated Nathan Clarke in a very close hill-hill finals to win Shooters' Amateur 9-Ball Tour Event #5. Congratulations to Chris and Nathan, and Jun Briones for 3rd place. The large field, combined with many competitive hill-hill matches made for an exciting and successful 9-Ball tournament to ring in 2016 in style. Shooters would like to thank the organizers, staff, players, and all those who came out to support.
Shooters would like to remind everyone of the next tournament:
Jan 9: Seven and Under 9-Ball (straight race to 7)
