Porter takes Kenyon's Luggage
Feb 2, 2002
On Saturday, February 2nd at Shooters Billiards in North York, 77 players showed up to compete in the fourth Ontario event for the Ontario/Quebec Challenge Tour. It was “The Big Unit” John Kenyon who stormed through the A-Side with his cool, composed style of play. Kenyon defeated Al Porter in the A-side final. Al then won his match over John Timmermans to get another chance a Kenyon in the Final.
Al Porter started out strong in the final with his powerful break. Thanks to a few quick combos on the 9 and a 9 off the break, Al found himself ahead 6-2. John Kenyon was not going down without putting up a fight. With some smart safeties and fine position, John got within one game at 11-10. Kenyon missed a tough cut shot on the 7-ball in the next game that would have tied the match. Porter now only needed one game to take the 1st place prize. Al’s big break left the 9 near the corner pocket in the next game. He eventually played a 5-9 carom to secure his 13-10 win. Nice match guys. See you at the next event.
