Petrosino Powers Through on Gulf Coast Tour

Robyn Petrosino powered through a 32-player field, defeating Ming Ng in the final set, 7-4, to capture her first, Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour 9-ball event. Petrosino has been competing on Tour since 2014, and while she’s had a number of top finishes, first place eluded her. This time, when Petrosino crossed the finish, she laid all questions to rest. On October 12th-13th, 2019, sponsors Cyclop Pool Balls, Poison by Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Vapor Fiend, Outsville Billiards, Team Straight Pool Eye, Southern Streaming, and venue, Big Tyme Billiards, facilitated a successful, finale event for Gulf Coast Tour players. Held at Big Tyme Billiards, located at 100 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, Texas, the event paid out $1,680 in prize money, for the two-day, women’s bar table 9-ball event. This marked the second Gulf Coast Tour event held at the renowned, billiards hotspot, and the Tour would like to thank owners Billy Sharp, Deborah Sharp, Mark Avery, and Jim Henry, for hosting another first-class event. The Gulf Coast Tour Invitational, $5,000 added, women’s 9-ball event, will be held October 31st-November 3rd, at Skinny Bob’s Billiards, located at 300 Hester’s Crossing Road, Round Rock, Texas, 78681. This event will be played on 9’ tables and feature sixty-four, female invitees, including players from five regional tours across the U.S. and Canada.







On her way to the winners' side final four, Robyn Petrosino defeated newcomer Penny Burgess, 7-3, Terri Urban, 7-6, and Kim Reiner, 7-1, while Ellen Robinson bested Kelly Isaac, 7-5, Ming “The Empress” Ng, 7-4, and Sara Bork, 7-1. Terry “The Terrorizer” Petrosino was on a roll, ousting Phyllis Winscott, 7-2, Michelle Abernathy, 7-1, and Yvonne Asher, 7-3, while Teresa “Princess of Pool” Garland overwhelmed Natalie Rocha, 7-0, Mercedes Vasquez, 7-5, and Kim “Texas Heat” Pierce, 7-1. On the one-loss side and in the final sixteen, Isaac took out Michelle Yim, 5-2, and Reiner, 5-4. Abernathy eliminated Brittany Kromer, 5-0, but fell to Sara Bork, 5-4. Ng was on the comeback trail, logging wins over Jennifer Bowman, 5-3, and Asher, 5-2, while Brandi Gana defeated Urban, 5-4, falling in turn to Pierce, 5-4. Back on the east side, final four action witnessed Garland overwhelm T. Petrosino, 7-3, and R. Petrosino pass up Robinson, 7-5. In the hot seat match, Garland and R. Petrosino kept pace until Petrosino pulled ahead to clench the win, 7-4. And with that, Robyn Petrosino came one step closer to attaining her first-ever, Tour victory, with one final match standing in her way. On the west side, Isaac barricaded Bork, 5-3, but was sent home by T. Petrosino, 5-2. Ng was on the war path, eliminating Pierce and Robinson by the same score, 5-3, T. Petrosino, 5-2, and Garland, 5-0. Following a seven match winning streak, Ng met R. Petrosino for one, final showdown. In the first set, the junior Petrosino proved too much for the veteran Ng, cruising to a 7-4 win and earning her first Tour title. The Tour would like to congratulate Robyn Petrosino on her undefeated victory, something for which she has fought long and hard.



Each
year the Gulf Coast Tour bestows a number of awards on deserving players. Finishing
in the number one position this year, Ming Ng earns her second, Gulf Coast Tour
Champion title. Ming is one of the toughest competitors on Tour, and becomes
the second player to win this title, twice, in the last seven years. Brittany
Kromer of Jarrell, Texas, becomes “Most Improved Player”, jumping an impressive
eleven spots, climbing from #20 in 2018, to #9 at the close of this year. Brittany
missed the second event due to a broken foot, but powered through the remaining
six stops, winning two second chance events. Congratulations to Michelle
Abernathy who takes home the “Perfect Attendance” award. Michelle was the only
player to attend all eight stops, this season. The coveted “Sportsmanship”
award and Rebecca Arcangeli “Dubious Achievement” award will be voted on by the
players, and announced at this year’s Invitational event.



In the second chance 9-ball event, Brittany Kromer took home
her second win this year, with newcomer, Cassie Hanson, runner-up. The Tour
would like to congratulate all the top finishers at this event, and those who
reached a milestone during the 2019 season. Gulf Coast welcomes its newest
members for the 2020 season, April Adkins, Francis Marron, Phyllis Winscott,
Penny Burgess, Jennifer Bowman, Jennifer Ramos, Michelle Abernathy, Brandi
