Straight Pool competition moves ahead with several casualties on the winner's side
Portoroz, Slovenia: Two-time European Bronze Medal winner Kynthia Orfanidis (NED) has defeated Dunja Vujanic (SRB) with 75:45.
Dunja Vujanic (SRB)
The match started a bit slow but Orfanidis was able to gain a quick 10-point- advantage over Vujanic in the early stage of the match. Though she tried to keep the pace with Orfanidis, Vujanic started missing more and more shots. Probably her nerves played a trick on her. Orfanidis, who is one of the most experienced players in the women's division, used her chances ice-cold and never gave up her advantage. To the contrary, she even widened the gap to Vujanic and remained victorious with 75:45 in the end. Her victory was never in danger. She will now enter the single elimination stage of the final 32 players while Vujanic needs one more victory on the loser's side.
In the men's division, last Euro-Tour winner Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) smashed Fabio Petroni (ITA) surprisingly clear with 100:18. Stepanov only needed two innings to make it to the single elimination round of the last 64 players. Petroni has another chance in the loser's bracket of the event. Petroni will be joined on the loser's side by the French straight pool expert Stephan Cohen who lost 30:100 to Sweden's Andreas Gerwen.
