Mothers Force Extra 404 Event

The ‘404’ is so popular we had to add another one! Actually, “Mothers” won the tournament. As a result of player requests the ‘404’ Final for the 2016/17 season was postponed to June 10, 2017 so players could be a little closer to home and be able to happily celebrate Mother’s Day. In place of the ‘404’ Final an extra ‘404’ was scheduled this past weekend (May 13, 2017) at the Shooters Snooker and Sports Club drawing a very respectable and strong field of 40 players. Some very strong amateur players as well as the local professionals were on hand for the Saturday action.
When tournament play reached the payout matches Jeff Robson, Mario Morra, Shane Gummerson, and John Andrade had sailed through on the undefeated ‘A’ side of the draw while Rob Keating, Erik Hjorleifson, Peter Linkletter and Brittany Bryant survived the challenges of the one loss ‘B’ side of the draw.
In the critical matches, Jeff Robson defeated Mario Morra while John Andrade downed Shane Gummerson setting up an ‘A’ side final pitting Robson against Andrade. The ‘B’ side action saw Hjorleifson send Keating home with Bryant topping Linkletter. This set up ‘B’ side matches with Hjorleifson versus Mario Morra and Bryant taking on Gummerson. Hjorleifson and Gummerson prevailed in their matches to reach the ‘B’ side semi-final. The veteran pro Hjorleifson emerged from a hard fought ‘B’ side semi-final with a victory over Gummerson.
In the ‘A’ side final Andrade dispatched Robson to the one loss side setting up a ‘B’ final where Robson would face off against Hjorleifson. Wanting a 2nd chance at Andrade, Robson played very well in taking down Hjorleifson in the ‘B’ side final. On this day, however, Andrade was playing too well. Robson’s revenge match against Andrade was an exciting final with the match going hill/hill but in the end Andrade emerged victorious.
Congratulations to the steadily improving John Andrade for his undefeated play in the tournament. Congratulations are also in order for Jeff Robson and Erik Hjorleifson who made life difficult for their opponents on Saturday with their strong play.
