Monture wins OBSA 8-Ball Qualifier at Tony's
Apr 18, 2016
We had a fantastic turnout for the OBSA Provincial 8-Ball Qualifier at Tony's Billiards in Guelph yesterday. Strong players from all over Ontario came out to win one of three spots in the Canadian 8 ball Open. Players like Andy Aupin both Harvey Shognosh and Pod- A-Guy as well as local favorites Paul Duell and Rob Brandenburg. Almost 30 players gathered for a quick ($1300) Calcutta before play was underway.
An early upset saw Eph Day send Andy Aupin to the B side in the open race to 7 and B side race to 5 format. Elio D'Andrea, who ended up finishing 3rd made his way through a very tough draw of Pod, Harvey, Duell, Rob B and then falling to Adam Monture in the A side final. Rod Arsenault was battling it out on the B side and taking big names out of the race including Andy, Duell, Rob and eventually Elio. In the true double elimination format it was Adam who quickly got the first set due to some great run outs and Rod's break had left him. Adam finishing 1st with Rod 2nd and Elio 3rd. A special note that the $1,300 Calcutta was paid out to top three players and one person had all three so took half of the entire Calcutta
1st Adam Monture $150 Paid entry, +$400 Expenses +Calcutta
2nd Rod Arsenault $150 Paid entry. +$250 Expenses +Calcutta
3rd Elio D'Andrea $150 Paid entry, +$50 Expenses +Calcutta

Thanks all for participating and we hope that even more of these events can filter our top provincial players to the Canadian Open events!!!!
