Mighty Mario Takes the Scenic Route

Mar 29, 2011

Tournament director Blain Jorgensen ran another 64 player event at BigWigs Billiards in Newmarket on March 26-27th, 2011. Top picks of the field were Raymond Cruz, Erik Hjorleifson, Andy Aupin, Al Logan and Mario Morra. With this kind of talent, it was anyone's guess who end up on top.
There were a few first round surprises. Kirk McKeen sent Erik Hjorleifson to the west side of the bracket with a 7-3 score. Ron Ranalli got past Al Logan with a 5-4 score and Mario Morra was defeated by the reigning world girls 9-ball champion Brittany Bryant 7-7.
The A-Side Finals featured Rob Johnson (6) vs Mike Patrowicz (9). Rob Johnson earned his spot in the finals with a 6-4 win over Mike "P". Mike then faced the experienced Mario Morra who had managed to chalk up 10 consecutive wins on the B-Side after his loss to Brittany in the first round. It was Mario all the way with a convincing 11-0 win. Mario carried his winning ways into the finals with an 11-4 score over Rob Johnson for the title.
