Losers bracket claims first victims
Wednesday, 05 December 2012 In the first losers round, Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) eliminated Charles Guimond (CAN) from the World Championships with 9:3.
Berk Mehmetcik (TNC)Mehmetcik dominated the match from the very beginning. He seemed to be more hungry and aggressive than his opponent. Probably that was the reason why he missed some easy shots; he just played too fast. But Guimond was not able to capitalize from that. After six racks, Mehmetcik was leading 5:1. And in the 7th rack, he did not even allow Guimond to enter the table. He ran the rack and claimed a comfortable 6:1 lead, Suddenly it seemed as if Guimond had realized that he was about to leave the World Championship stage soon. He won two racks in a row and it looked like he was up for some more resistance. But Mehmetcik was too strong for him. At a score of 8:3 for Mehmetcik, the player from Turkish North Cyprus pocketed the 8-ball and the 9-ball at the same time and ousted Guionond from the event, winning 9:3.
Another surprising result was the victory of Meshaal-Turkii Al-Ali (QAT). He defeated
Christiano Bloemstein (RSA) with 9:5 and will now face Raphael Wahl (GER) in the next round. In the wheelchair division, the defending Champion Jouni Tahti (FIN) led up to his expectations and defeated Emil Schranz (AUT) 7:3. After a tough fight, Joachim Schuler (GER) won his match over Daniel Luton (GBR) with 7:6.
