Tough matches in 8-ball competition
Tomasz Malinowski
In an intense 8-ball battle in the winner’s qualifying round, Tomasz Malinowski (POL) defeated Christophe Creter (GER) with 7:5. The match was a bit unstructured by both players in the first four racks. After trailing 1:3, Creter took a time-out and tried to settle down. It seemed to work. He came back and ran a whole rack to come to 2:3. Then, Malinowski broke he rack, had balls down and everything looked promising for him to take the next point. But he scratched. Creter could have tied the match but he missed his last ball. Malinowski gained a 2-point lead again. The next two racks were run outs by both players so the score came to 5:3. Then Malinowski took his time-out. When he came back, he witnesses another run out by Creter. Whether he was impressed or not, he missed his first ball in the next rack and Creter ran out again, tying the match at 5:5. The next two racks sealed Creter’s fate; or maybe one could say he sealed it himself. Creter had open table in the 11th and the 12th rack but both times he made an avoidable mistake. Malinowski took his chances and won the match with 7:5.
Other notable results from today’s 8-ball action include Jesse Thehu (NED) winning over Stefano Bazzana (ITA) with 7:6. Peter Akesson (SWE) sent Manuel Pereira (POR) to the loser’s side with 7:5. In the ladies’ division, Ann-Sofie Löfgren(SWE) handed a doughnut to Anja Hehre (GER), winning her match 5:0.
