Lumagbas’ Comeback to Win Shooters’ “24” 8-Ball Event

Mar 30, 2016

After hosting a slew of low handicap tournaments for players SL 3-5 for the past few Sundays, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted an SL 2-4 8-Ball tournament this past Sunday, March 27. This tournament appealed to low level amateur pool players across the GTA, with men and women of all ages in attendance. This event was capped at 32 players and took place over one day. The prize pool was $1,230 and the Calcutta was $820, for a combine total of over $2,000.
After a few rounds of play, there were four players left on the A-Side, making for some interesting matchups. One match was between Khalid Rashed and an up-and-coming 15 year-old Joshua Crimi. The other A-Side match was a domestic battle between Robbie Harris and his father, Robin Harris. Joshua C fought hard to edge Khalid in a hill-hill match 4-4. Robbie got the best of Robin, winning that match 5-2.
Over on the B-Side, Alan Rickets defeated Robin H in a close 5-4 match, while Khalid R fell short against Jan Lumagbas 5-1. Jan went on to beat Alan 5-3 and would wait the loser of the hot-seat match.
Meanwhile on the A-Side, Robbie Harris was the last undefeated player, as he beat Joshua C 5-2. Joshua C would then face Jan L, but Jan’s 6-match win streak would not come to an end. Jan defeated Joshua in a hill-hill match, 5-3.
The final match was set between Robbie Harris and Jan Lumagbas. In this true double format, Jan would have to beat Robbie twice in order to take home the tournament. Jan defeated Robbie in a nail-biter double-hill match in the first set, to force a winner takes all final set. In the final set, Jan’s win streak would not come to an end, as he won the second set against Robbie 5-3.

Congratulations to Jan Lumagbas, Shooters’ 2-4 8-Ball champion. Jan fought hard from the B-Side of this true double format, winning an outstanding 9 matches in a row to secure the title. Honourable mention also goes out to Robbie Harris and Joshua Crimi for shooting well all day.
Shooters would like to thank everyone who came out to play and support the low-level amateur players. Shooters will be hosting a new ‘2-4’ 9-Ball tournament this coming Sunday, April 3. Register early to avoid disappointment.
