KNACK Pool & Billiards Tip #3 - The KISS Rule
Oct 1, 2011
Keeping It Simple
Many games are lost because players try to do more than they are capable of. Keeping the game simple is the best way to go. If you are not good at hitting a draw shot, then you shouldn't try to draw the cue ball around the table. Realizing your own strengths and weaknesses will make you a better and smarter player. Keeping things simple is as basic as it sounds; don't do something stupid that causes you to lose the game. It is far better to play a safe shot than to take a wild attempt at a shot that you have low percentage of pocketing.
When you are in a game deciding situation, always think before you shoot. Ask yourself: Is this the best move I can make? What are my alternatives? Sometimes it is something simple, and you will need to recognize it. It may mean tak1ng a scratch on purpose or pushing a ball close to another one to make it more difficult for your opponent to run out the table. Keeping the game as simple as possible is almost always your best option. Do not try to make it more complicated than it already is. Looking for these options will quickly make you a better and smarter player. The KISS theory is one of the best theories in pool. This theory could apply to more than just pool of course. Whenever you are in a difficult situation, remember what those four letters stand for. It will help you out more often than you think.
