Jackson Revell Takes Down Shooters Amateur 9-ball Tournament
Dec 9, 2015
On December 5th, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto held its last Amateur 9-ball event of 2015. SL4 to SL9 players had been anticipating this event for almost a month, since Waleed Mukhtar became Shooters’ youngest amateur winner on November 8.
Although many players were unable to attend due to holiday shopping and other commitments, 38 talented amateurs showed up to compete for a prize pool that included $500 added by Shooters. To make it more convenient for the players, tournament organizers decided to make it an epic one-day event. It was a truly sleepless night of pool battles.
Jackson Revell fought hard through the A-side, going undefeated to secure himself a spot in the finals. On the other side, Jun Briones anxiously awaited the winner of the B-side semifinal between Froland Magsanoc and Kevin Oliveira. Froland defeated Kevin, but his journey back to the A-side finals came to an end by Jun.
Jackson Revell and Jun Briones faced off in the finals of this long one-day event. The true double elimination format required Jun to win two matches against Jackson in order to claim victory. However, Jackson was not to be denied. Jackson Revell’s (SL5) spectacular shooting led him to become the first SL5 or under to win the amateur event this year.
This event was a true test of skill and endurance as matches took place from Saturday morning to the early hours of Sunday morning. It also marked the halfway point of the Shooters Amateur 9-ball tour, with 4 events remaining until the April 16/17 finale with $1,500 added.
Shooters would like to remind everyone of the final 2 tournaments of 2015:
Dec 12: 36 9 ball Tournament. SL3-6, Race to Handicap +1, One-Day Event
Dec 26: Unique Boxing Day 15-ball Tournament, Open to All Players
