GUMBO TAKES IT DOWN!

Mar 7, 2017

Welcome to the 7th amateur 9 ball event of the season. Just as notice there are no more $150 spots for the 47 Extravaganza this coming weekend. There are still, however, a limited amount of spots at $175 so make sure you get your entry before it gets bumped up to $200. This was a very chilly weekend last week which gives us good reason to be inside hustling! The field was capped at 32 players to keep it to a 1 day event. Many players from all ranks came out to compete for $1600 of prize money and $1100 from the calcutta. Some of the favorites this tournament included: Rob Hall, Naomi Williams, Ryann Malinao, Jesse Piercy, and Shane Gummerson.
The final 8 players included, on the A side, Ryann Malinao versus Froland Magsonac and Naomi Williams vs Cory Sharman. On the B side there was Steve Menezes versus Johnathan Saukney and Rob Hall versus Shane Gummerson. Both of whom had close hill-hill matches with their previous opponents Bobby Drowns and Rod Arsenault respectively. Ryann seemed to be back in form as he sent Froland to the B side over an 8-3 scoreline. Naomi also won her match with a close hill-hill battle with Cory. This sends Froland and Cory to the B side awaiting the winners of the matches listed above.
Steve could not overcome Jonathan with a few bad misses and rolls to lose 7-4. This now sends Jonathan to play against Froland. Jonathan turns the heat on high and gives Froland the donut sending him and his powder out of the tournament. There is a much different result in the other half of the B side. Rob Hall tries his best to beat the ever lively Shane but could not come out with the win losing 6-8. Shane’s good fortune and playing help him get through Cory who again loses hill-hill. There are now only two matches going, on the A side you have the titans Naomi and Ryann playing for a guaranteed second place and on the B side there was Shane versus Jonathan.
Naomi and Ryann are no strangers to each other having just played each other in the recent 10 ball tournament. Ryann manages to take the win this time with an 8-5 score line, guaranteeing himself 2nd place and a spot in the finals of this weeks’ tournaments. Shane starts to wake up and keeps up the pace against Jonathan smoking him 8-2 and now plays Naomi Williams. Shane comes very close once again to being knocked out of the tournament as Naomi brings the match to hill-hill but Shane is one who closes the match out with the W.
Shane now plays Ryann in the tournament finals and since this is not a special event Shane will only have to beat Ryann once to become this tournament’s final. Shane showed up for the occasion breaking and running several times in the finals to put Ryann on the back foot and propel him ahead to win the tournament! Shout out goes to Shane, Ryann and Naomi for playing exceptionally well and attaining their respective wins. Please read below for the payouts and future events.
