Froland Magsanoc: Shooters’ ‘3-5’ 8-Ball Champ!

On Sunday, March 13, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted their third consecutive Sunday SL 3-5 Tournament. After two Sundays of ‘3-5’ 9-Ball tournaments, Shooters hosted a 3-5 8-Ball tournament this time around. The field included some of the strongest mid-level amateurs, making this tournament exciting and hard to predict the outcome.
After a few rounds of play, the field of 38 was narrowed down to 6 players:
On the A-Side, Aamer Khraj defeated Kevin Carrier in a tight 5-4 match. Froland Magsanoc also defeated Robbie Harris 5-0. Kevin C and Robbie H would be welcomed on the B-Side by Oscar Zapata and Orlando Ashby, respectively. Oscar and Orlando’s good run on the B-Side would not come to an end, as both of them won their matches in order to face each other in the B-Side Semi-Finals. Orlando eventually went on to beat Oscar 4-2 in order to face the loser of the hot-seat match.
In the hot-seat match, after initially going down in the match, Froland M came back to defeat Aamer K 5-3. Orlando went on to register his 7th consecutive win, defeating Aamer 4-2 and earning a chance back on the A-Side in the finals. The finals would come down to a matchup between Froland and Orlando. Would Froland remain undefeated, or would Orlando’s win-streak extend to 8? In an even matched hill-hill finals, Froland would eventually come out on top winning 5-3. Both players put up a great match for all those who were watching. Congratulations to Froland and honourable mention to Orlando.
