Final Stage: 12 Players Remain at the World Straight Pool Championship

Aug 17, 2018

Nanuet, NY- The second stage of the 78th World Straight Pool Championship is complete with only 12 players remaining to move onto the 3rd final stage of the single elimination 200 point games. Players from Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, and the USA are vying for the title of World Straight Pool Champion and join the legends who have won the prestigious event since 1912.

Tony Robles of Brooklyn NY has coveted this title more than any other. His highest finish is 5th in the quarter-finals back in 2014. He is back in the quarter-finals again, and if he wins his match he will enter his first final four at the World 14.1.

"I love straight pool above all other games. I want my name on that trophy with the legends of 14.1 that I grew up watching", said Robles, who remains undefeated in the event for the first time after 6 matches.

His work will still be cut-out for him as he faces a possible re-match with Mika Immonen of Finland who is a former champion of this event. Mika will first have to overcome Rhys Chen of Jamaica a qualifier winner. In fact, 3 of the 4 qualifier winners made it to the final stage this year and are still alive after they all made upsets over more experienced pros in the first and second stage of the World 14.1.
