Fernandez Finish Strong in Shooters’ 7 and Under 9-Ball Event

On Saturday, March 19, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted its third 7 and Under 9-Ball Straight race event. This tournament brought out the best in players, as everyone competed in straight race to 7 matches. The field was capped at 32 to make it a one-day event due to the ‘3-5’ 8-Ball tournament that took place the following day. Shooters would like to remind everyone to register in advance in order to ensure a spot in the tournament. Players competed hard all day to earn their share of a combined prize pool and Calcutta of $2,000.
After the first few rounds of competitions and some early upsets, the field was narrowed down to 6 players:
On the A-Side:
Ryann Malinao vs Waleed Mukhtar
Marius Nakas vs Jehlar Fernandez
The two players remaining on the B-Side were Gene Chipongian and Chad Bishop.
Ryann cruised past Waleed in the quarterfinals, beating him 7-2, while Jehlar had a much more difficult time beating Marius in a hill-hill 7-6 match. Waleed and Marius moved to the B-Side, facing off against Gene and Chad respectively. Waleed defeated Gene 7-2 and Marius overcame Chad 7-4, and the two would meet next in their B-Side semifinals match. Waleed went on to beat Marius, and waited for the loser of the hot-seat match.
In the hot-seat match, Ryann and Jehlar would do battle. Jehlar would continue his stellar shooting, beating Ryann 7-3. Ryann stayed determined as he went on to beat Waleed in the B-Side finals, earning him a rematch against Jehlar. Jehlar once again proved to be unbeatable on Saturday as he went on to defeat Ryann for a second straight time.

Congratulations Jehlar Fernandez for shooting like a champion all day, and a valiant effort by Ryann Malinao and Waleed Mukhtar for their second and third place finishes. Shooters would like to thank the players who came out to play in another superb bout of competition among Toronto’s best amateurs.
