Che Claims Championship at Shooters “25” 9-Ball Event

Apr 15, 2016

This past weekend, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted two one-day tournaments on Saturday and Sunday. The amateur tournaments yielded a total of 80 players and over $6,200 in prize money to be paid out. The second event took place on Sunday, April 10th. This event was Shooters’ “25” 9-Ball Tournament, welcoming low level amateurs SL 2-5 players from across the GTA to compete in this one-day event. The popularity these SL 2-4 and SL 2-5 continued to increase, as demonstrated by the larger field of 39 players this time around. The players would shoot their best throughout the day to compete for their share of a $1,330 prize pool and $1,040 Calcutta.
In this extended race format, players would race to their handicap +1 in order to give the players more time on the felt. After four rounds of play, the A-Side was down to 4 undefeated players:
Che Lemmon vs Woody Tran
and
Blake Tyas vs Froland Magsanoc
Che beat Woody in a nail-biter 6-5 double hill match, while Froland comfortable beat Blake 7-2. On the B-Side, Woody would then face-off against Arjun Devarajan while Blake took on Chris Alimurung. Unfortunately for Woody, he would lose once more in a double hill 6-5 match, this time to Arjun. Blake also beat Chris 5-4 in order to face Arjun next on the B-Side.
Over on the A-Side, Che would do battle with Froland for the hot-seat. Che shot outstanding in the match to defeat Froland 6-5. Froland awaited in the B-Side finals for the winner between Arjun and Blake. Arjun cruised through the match; defeating Blake 6-1 and securing a guaranteed top 3 finish in the event. Next up was a match between B-Side newcomer Froland and Arjun, who had been on the B-Side since he lost his opening match. Arjun’s momentum proved to be too much for Froland, as he won his 8th consecutive B-Side match 6-4 and a chance back on the A-Side to win the tournament.
In this true-double format, Arjun would have to beat Che twice to claim the title. In the finals, Arjun’s run would continue, as he beat Che in the first set and force the match into a final and decisive set. Che stayed focused and determined as he won the second set and the tournament. Congratulations to Che Lemmon for winning Shooters’ "25" 9-Ball Event. Che put up a great performance throughout the tournament to capture the title.

Thanks to all the staff, organizers, players, and supporters who made this tournament possible and for supporting the low-level amateurs. This Sunday, April 17 will be an SL “2-4” 8-Ball tournament. Register early to avoid disappointment.
