Casper Strikes Third Blow on Gulf Coast Tour
Oct 5, 2016
The second annual “Emma Davis Memorial Event” was the sixth stop on this year’s WPBA sanctioned, Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Tour, to honor fallen pool player, friend, wife, and mother, Emma Davis. Following a moment of silence, 9-ball action commenced, witnessing a slow start for Houston’s Ricki Casper who lost her second round match to Gail Eaton, 7-5. Amidst a field of 31 players, Casper won 9 consecutive matches, including two sets over hot seat winner, Tam Trinh, 7-2, 5-2. This event marked Casper’s third victory of the season, and Trinh’s highest finish to date.
On September 10th, 2016, Bogies West (Houston, Texas) along with tour sponsors Delta-13 Rack www.delta-13.com, APA of North Harris County www.facebook.com/apanorthharriscounty, and Cyclop Pool Balls www.facebook.com/cycloppoolballs facilitated another successful event for the ladies of the Gulf Coast Tour, who competed for over $1,000 in prize money, in a one-day competition.
It was Austin’s Tam Trinh setting the pace and taking the lead, securing wins over Regine Delores, Teresa Garland, 7-6, and Gail Roles, 7-3. Tiffany Mundie made her bid for the winners’ side final four, logging wins over Bonnie Mason, Rebecca Arcangeli, 7-3, and Jenny Magee, 7-1. Kim “Texas Heat” Pierce went through tour newcomer June Taylor, D’Andrea McQuirter, 7-0, and Terry Petrosino, 7-4, while Gail “Virginia Slim” Eaton bested Loretta Lindgren, Ricki Casper, 7-5, and Sara Bork, 7-1. As the winners’ side final four took shape, action on the one-loss side witnessed Toni Esteves eliminate Cindy Tillman, 5-3, Arcangeli, 5-3, Amber Keithley, and Sara Bork, 5-3. Lindgren was on a roll of her own, taking out Erica Hanlon, 5-0, Ariana Lynch, 5-0, Garland, 5-4, and T. Petrosino, 5-2. Casper was busy as well, eliminating Terri Resendes, 5-1, Kim Jenkins, 5-0, and Magee. Competing in her second event of the year, Monica Detuncq secured wins over Brandi Humber, D’Andrea McQuirter, Liz Mitchel, 5-4, and Gail Roles, 5-3. Back on the east side, a fiery Pierce defeated Eaton, 7-5, while Trinh made quick work of Mundie, 7-3. Brand new to hot seat action, Trinh took it in stride, defeating Pierce, 7-4. Out west, T. Petrosino eliminated Esteves, 5-1, and Mundie, 5-1, while Casper overcame Detuncq, 5-3, and Eaton, 5-2. Casper went on to defeat T. Petrosino, 5-2, and Pierce, 5-3, to meet Trinh in the finals. Trinh, vying for her first title, fell to Casper the first set, 7-2. In overtime, following a sequence of unforced errors by Trinh, Casper capitalized, winning the second set, 5-2.
Gulf Coast welcomes its newest player, June Taylor, and congratulates all of the players who reached a milestone at this event! The Gulf Coast Tour would also like to thank Bogies West owners, David and Shannon Richardson, General Manager, Stephanie Verron, and the entire Bogies staff for their outstanding service, and unmatched hospitality, throughout the event.
