Canadian Amateur 8 and 9 Ball Pool Championships Summary

The Canadian Amateur 8 and 9 Ball Pool Championships recently concluded at Fairville Shooters in Saint John, New Brunswick from 24-29 June 2014.
Canadian Amateur Women’s 8 Ball:
This event ran from 24-26 June and had 14 entrants. Theresa Hunter from Saint John, New Brunswick came out on top in this event. Her path to the title had a win over Nicole McDonough 7-1, a loss to Ruth Ann Haley 3-7 followed by wins over Nan Thibodeau 7-1, Lisa Savoy 7-6, Candace Campbell 7-1, Ruth Ann Haley 7-6, Valerie Bell 7-4 and Cathy Horgan in the final 9-7. Cathy Horgan took a shorter path to the finals with wins over Emmaly Allison 7-3, Lisa Savoy 7-4, Ruth Ann Haley 7-4, Valerie Bell 7-4 and her only loss was in the extended race to 9 final to Theresa Hunter 7-9.
1st - Theresa Hunter - $1,000
2nd - Cathy Horgan - $800
3rd - Valerie Bell - $600
4th - Ruth-Ann Haley - $400

Canadian Amateur 8 Ball:
This event ran from 24-26 June and had 33 entrants. Adrian Fragoso from Hamilton, Ontario came out on top in this event. His path to the title had a win over Rob Galbraith 7-3 but then he took a loss to Rick Garant 4-7. He regrouped and tore through the B side with wins over Adam Cudmore 7-5, Kyle Richard 7-3, Jason Ross 7-3, Doug Osborne 7-5, Ivan Daigle 7-4, Mike Henderson 7-5, Joe McIntyre 7-3 and Des Chong in the final 9-4. Des Chong had a slightly easier road to the finals going undefeated on the A side with wins over Doug Reed 7-6, Bill Gray 7-2, Doug Osborne 7-2, Mike Henderson 7-5, Joe McIntyre 7-4. His only loss in this event was during the extended race to 9 final to Adrian Fragoso. Adrian also received a CBSA Amateur 8 Ball Championship ring to go along with his trophy.
1st - Adrian Frogoso - $1,300.
2nd - Des Chong - $1,100.
3rd - Joe McIntyre - $900
4th - Mike Henderson - $700
5th / 6th - Remi Boudreau, Yvon Daigle - $375
7th / 8th - Terry Gulliver, Doug Osborne - $250

Canadian Amateur Women’s 9 Ball:
This event ran from 27-29 June and had 13 entrants. Once again Theresa Hunter from Saint John, New Brunswick became the champion of this event. Theresa Hunter had wins over Monique Connolly 7-6 a loss to Candace Campbell 5-7, a tough win against Lisa David 7-6, another tough win over Candace Campbell 7-6 and a win over Lisa Savoy 9-6 in the final. Lisa Savoy had a shorter path to the final with wins over Dianne Leblanc 7-5, Valerie Bell 7-1 and Candace Campbell 7-1 and her only loss was in the extended race to 9 final.

Canadian Junior 9 Ball:
This event ran from 28-29 June and had 8 entrants. Stuart MacTaggart from London, Ontario was the eventual winner in this event. He was victorious over Charles Guimont 9-7, he then suffered a loss to Kayla Roloson 6-9 and then had wins over Dustin Lewis 9-3, Wilson Galbraith 9-6, Kayla Roloson 9-7 and Nicholas Ridley 11-1 in the final. Nicholas Ridley got to the final with wins over Bailey Morton 9-2, Wilson Galbraith 9-8 and Kayla Roloson 9-6 and suffered his only loss in the extended race to 11 final. Great work and congratulations!
Stuart MacTaggart along with Kayla Roloson and Nicholas Ridley will be travelling to Shanghai, China to compete for Canada in the World Juniors Championships from 15-19 November 2014. All three of these Juniors will receive expense money for their trip.

Canadian Amateur 9 Ball:
This event ran from 27-29 June and had 42 entrants. Mike Henderson from Saint John, New Brunswick became this year’s champion. Mike had wins over Nicholas Ridley 9-5, Paul Comeau 9-8, Joe McIntyre 9-6, Paul Gordon 9-6, Matt Crawford 9-4 and an impressive 11-10 victory over Fernand Charest in the final. In the hill-hill game Mike proceeded to make a long jump shot and run out the remaining balls for the title. Fernand Charest had wins over Joe DeSilva 9-3, Rob Galbraith 9-2, Rick Garant 9-5, Mark McDonough 9-4 but then he suffered a 9-8 loss to Matt Crawford. On the B side he had wins over Joe McIntyre 9-4, Paul Gordon 9-6, Matt Crawford 9-1 and then just came up short in the extended race to 11 final. Great work guys!
Mike Henderson also received a CBSA Amateur 9 Ball Championship ring and a 2014-2015 CBSA Open 9 Ball entry plus expenses to go along with his trophy.
