The 1st Annual Southern Classic continues at Harrah's Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. There were 172 entries in the bank pool event which started on Friday.
Fred "The Beard" BentivegnaEddie Cirasella played Jason Chance a one pocket veteran, Jason played a calm collected game waiting for his opportunities. Eddie came out firing however Jason was just to much for him winning 3-1. After utilizing his buy-back option in the third round Eddie drew none other than Fred "The Beard" Bentivegna. Being the bank specialist he is, he proved to be to strong for Eddie winning 3-0. Fred "The Beard" Bentivegna's book is available HERE.
John Morra used his buy back option after the first round. He drew a big time poker player trying his hand out in the banks division, Chris A from las vegas. A humbled Morra after a first round loss snapped into shape winning 3-0 in the blink of an eye. Morra then drew 2006 Derby City Banks champion Stevie Moore. John was dialed in nailing straight backs in threes, shaking down the past champ 3-0. John will be playing in the banks ring game tonight at 9pm, go get'em Johnny!
Justin Kluznik drew Keith McCready's old road partner Harry Platis who came off a good win over Chris Bartram. The match started off slow with both players playing safe not wanting to give away any easy banks. After a few errors by Harry, Justin made the most of his opportunities winning the first two games taking a 2-0 lead. Harry came out banking 3 balls after a dry break from Justin eventually making the score 2-1. A long forth game of safety banking then occurred when Harry missed a cross side to be back in the match and Justin cleaned up banking the last three to win the match. He then drew Clay Campton in the third round. Both players came out firing, putting together multi bank runs in the first three games but Justin would take the match lead 2-1. On the hill a tight safety game took place but Justin would go on to win the match 3-1 and remain undefeated going into the fourth round.
Alex Pagulayan is still undefeated going into the forth round as well. He has been playing some great bank pool as usual. In the third round Alex edged out Corey Deuel hill-hill games and hill-hill in balls. Both players had three attempts at the last ball, but Alex made a nice long cross corner to get the win.
Play resumes Sunday at 10am.
