Allison Fisher wins WPBA Ashton Twins Classic

Jan 6, 2020

Allison “Duchess of Doom” is the winner of WPBA’s first tournament in 2020, the Ashton Twins Classic in Calgary, Canada.

Jennifer Barretta had sent Fisher to the loss side last night but she fought through to win her B-side final over Kristina Tkach, 9-6. This meant that the tournament final would feature Barretta v. Fisher once more.

The ladies didn’t give each other many chances to pull ahead and the rematch swung back and forth until 9-7 when Fisher came within two games to win it all. Barretta was able to pick up one more game but then Fisher fended her off to end the final match 11-8.

The winner received $10,000. The runner-up got $5,600. There were 50 players in the field.

Some would say that the female pros don’t get as much attention and play lesser known events, but the WPBA did a fine job with the Ashton Twins Classic. The event was held at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, a nice venue in Calgary, Canada. The live streams and commentary by Cue Sports Live were of the highest production caliber. The final match probably attracted over 3,000 online viewers, a testament to the popularity of pool and the female players.
