Ada Boy!

Nov 1, 2015

The 2nd leg of the 2015/16 ‘404’ season wrapped up this past weekend (October 24th & 25th) at Shooters Snooker and Sports Club. The 404 will continue to be held throughout the 2015/16 season at Shooters.
Despite the competition across the GTA this past weekend to attract pool and snooker players to various tournaments, the ‘404’ was still able to draw a solid field of 46 competitors for the weekend action. This tournament continues to draw players from outside the GTA including St. Catherines and Buffalo for this past weekend’s action..
When play concluded on Saturday, Jun Briones, Alan Ada, Brandyn Griffin and Glen Seesemann were left standing on the undefeated ‘A’ side of the draw while Jaypee Castillo, Gannon McSween, Naomi Williams and Romeo Zulueta survived the challenges of the one loss ‘B’ side of the draw. All returned for Sunday play.
When play resumed on Sunday, Alan Ada defeated Briones while Glen Seesemann downed Brandyn Griffen setting up an ‘A’ side final match pitting Ada against Seesemann. The ‘B’ side action saw McSween send Castillo home with Zulueta topping Williams. This set up ‘B’ side matches of McSween versus Briones and Zulueta taking on Griffen. Briones and Zulueta prevailed in their matches to reach the ‘B’ side semi-final. The veteran Zulueta emerged from a hard fought ‘B’ side semi-final with the victory over Briones.

In the ‘A’ side final Seesemann sent Ada to the one loss side setting up a ‘B’ final where Ada would face off against Zulueta. Not to be denied a second chance against Seesemann, Ada outplayed his fellow Filipino Zulueta for another shot at Seesemann. Continuing his weekend of solid play Ada defeated Seesemann 6-5 in the championship final by executing a difficult combination on the 9 ball to thwart the comeback by the experienced Seesemann. In typical Pinoy fashion Ada called his win “lucky”.
Congratulations to both Alan Ada and Glen Seesemann for their excellent play over the weekend. Ada has continued his strong play over the past few months with Seesemann drawing upon his experience to notch a ‘place’ finish while playing only infrequently these days.
Thanks to all the tournament participants for a good weekend of competitive pool. Upcoming tournaments at Shooters include the 2nd installment of the popular ‘4-7’ Extravaganza on November 14, 2015. This is also a restricted handicap tournament for those with handicaps from 4 to 7 eligible to play. This event was first held in June 2015 and drew a staggering 110 participants with prize money over $26,000 including both the prize monies and Calcutta.
The next Shooters Amateur 9 Ball Event will be held November 7th and 8th. All tables will be re-clothed in time for this event. Please check the Shooters Snookerclub Facebook page and www.thepoolscene.com for dates and details for all upcoming tournaments.
