A New Champion Emerges on the 404 9-Ball Tour

Dec 10, 2012

"Uncle Leo"The 404 9-Ball Tour had another full field of 64 players in Toronto on December 8-9th.
For those of you that have not yet played in this tour, make note that the tournament is usually full by 11 AM. Carlin Sanderson was quick to get the player auction started and did a great job generating an additional $2,310 in prize money. The handicapped fee structure gives the lower ranked players an opportunity to play against top level "Pros" for as low as $30.
There has been a wide variety of new faces showing up to try a earn a piece of the hefty prize funds this tour has to offer. A notable newcomer was 11 year old Jake Miosi from Buffalo, New York. The likable young man with a sharp eye and smooth stroke has been learning a few shots from Dennis Hatch. Although Jake has only been playing for about a year, he is already competing against some of the best players in the country.

Ben Chang, formerly a Toronto player, now living in Briitsh Columbia lead the top half of the bracket with wins over Russ Cormier, Dan Miosi, Chad Bishop, Jared Amyot and Lee Brett. In the bottom half of the bracket, Alan Ada had wins over Chris Almarang, Ben Heywood, Erik Hjorleifson and Brad Guthrie.
In the A-Side final Alan Ada secured his spot in the finals as he sent Ben Chang to the B-Side to face off against Lee Brett for the second time in this tournament. Lee Brett, instructor, author, commentator and pool player had been tearing up the field with his one-stroke style of play. Brett just came off a nice with over the 2 time reigning champion Rob Hall, but he couldn't get past Ben Chang. Brett settled for third place with hopes of retaining his 7 amateur ranking.

The finals were over in a hurry as both players agreed to shorten the match to a race to 3. In the end, Alan Ada came out on top.  They scooped the cash and ran out the door!
