2nd Annual Ontario Open Junior 8 Ball Championships

Partners Bowling and Billiards will play host to the 2nd Annual Ontraio Open Junior 8 ball Championships July 25-26. There are three divisions for these Championships and they are as follows: 9-13 years, 14-17 years and 18-20 years. Throughout the divisions there are singles, teams, and scotch doubles events.

Kelly Raymond, coordinator for the Junior Pool League, is one of the main driving forces behind these Championships along with Partners owner Bonnie Zulfelt. Raymond explained her reasoning for organizing these junior tournaments by saying,"When my son Nicolas Raymond began playing the junior league, I started searching for tournaments for him to go to, that would provide him with the experience of playing a wide variety of players, it was difficult to find many."
Raymond had a very successful first event by securing sponsors and having players travel to North Bay from all over Ontario to participate. Personally, this is the first time I have heard of these Championships, however I am very pleased they are taking place. In order for the game to grow in Canada like it does overseas, in Asia and Europe, it has to be introduced and nurtured at a young age. These Championships will surely help the future of the Canadian pool scene.
