2012 Ontario VNEA Championships

On behalf of the organizing committee for the 2012 Ontario VNEA Championships  in London, I would like to thank the charter holders and players for their cooperation during this year’s event. It was another successful tournament with 136 teams and 361 singles participating.  There was plenty of excitement on both Friday and Saturday night when draws were held for 42” LCD televisions, compliments of the OVNEA. As well, Brian Elliott was on hand to help raise funds for the VNEA Junior Program with Bob Glen being the lucky winner of a draw for a Dave Pearson cue as well as other items.
The competition  within each division was strong and many close games were witnessed in both singles and team competition.  The participating  charter holders were G & G Enterprises from London, Town & Country and Tally Ho from Windsor, DMD from Sarnia, Ontario Skill Games from Toronto, Northshore Vending from Sault Ste. Marie, New Crown Music from Sudbury and Partners Billiards & Bowling from North Bay.
We would like to thank Gary Benson, our Tournament Director, whose scheduling of games is always appreciated. Our Referee-in-chief, Cory Coulter and his group of referee’s did an outstanding  job as did our volunteers who worked many countless hours. From the podium staff to registration and accommodation, the effort was greatly appreciated. The mini tournament volunteers and Peter Kapsalis were on hand late into the evenings and did an ex- cellent job running the event. Serge Ruel, John Weloski and Peter Kapsalis worked long hours to keep the draw sheets up to date and accurate. The volunteers who participated in the set up and take down of the pool tables were from Northshore Pool Leagues in Sault Ste. Marie and they did an awesome job. The room was set up and ready to go in record time under the watchful eye of John Weloski.
A highlight  of the tournament was the introduction  of a new computer software program being developed for tourna- ment and league play. Compusport from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec were on hand doing the draws along side of Gary Benson’s and the players were very impressed with the output.  We would like to thank the staff of Compusport for coming to the tournament and taking the time to show everyone what the program has to offer. Last but not least, I would like to thank our hard working executive members; John Weloski – Vice President, Larry Zigras – Treasurer and  Barb Landrey – Secretary as well as committee chairs, Bill Landrey, Peter Kapsalis and Boomer Braido for the many countless hours they have spent helping this organization. We are lucky to have them involved.
