Pierce Wins on Gulf Coast Tour

pierceAustin’s own Kim Pierce, aka “Texas Heat”, crushed the competition at the May, Gulf Coast Tour 9-ball event held at Bogies Billiards and Sports Bar in Houston, Texas. Pierce faced some of the toughest regional competitors Texas has to offer, surging to a final victory over hot seat winner, Killeen’s own Kimmy Nguyen, 7-4. First round action saw Pierce defeat Sara Bork, 7-3, followed by Belinda Lee, 7-1, and Nayla Hoak, 7-2, as Nguyen powered through the lower half of the winners’ bracket with wins over Bonnie Eddlemen-Mason and Michelle Yim. After an early round loss to Natalie Mans, Loretta Lindgren fought back, positioning herself for a shot at third place. Lindgren overpowered Diana Cardona, 7-3, and Eddlemen-Mason, 7-1, to meet Lee. Working on a comeback herself, Lee secured four consecutive one loss side matches including wins over Mans and Yim. Lee eliminated Lindgren, fighting for a chance to defend her March victory on the Gulf Coast Tour. Back on the east side, Nguyen was on a mission, battling hard to secure the hot seat over Pierce. In a grueling, emotional set, Nguyen pulled through brilliantly, 7-6. Pierce overcame Lee, reaching Nguyen once again, this time for the final match. As the first set commenced, Pierce was on track and far from finished. Nguyen unwillingly relinquished her hold, suffering her first loss to Pierce, 7-5. In overtime, Nguyen failed to regroup, losing the final set to Pierce, 7-4.
