This winter, Lucasi Hybrid Cues, along with Simonis Cloth and Atlas Billiard Supplies, Big Wig’s Billiards and Stroker’s Billiards sponsored another successful series of amateur 8-ball tournaments for men, women and juniors. We held 8 qualifying events, of which players were required to participate in only 2 events to qualify for the grand finale. As a result of the generous donations, we were able to host a $1,000 added championship on April 21st, along with a 2nd Chance Tournament on the 22nd.
The tournament format is a modified round robin with no handicap. The players play 5 rounds of 4 games in each match. Players came from as far as Ottawa, Barrie, Peterborough and London! Cindy Bristow wins a huge vote of thanks for coming all the way from Ottawa!
11 women, 5 juniors and 32 men arrived eager and ready to do battle. After a long hard fought day, 8 men came through to play off for the cash in one bracket and 4 came through from the women/junior bracket.
After all the tie breakers were finished, the final 8 in the mens division were Nick Sledzion, Bobby Drowns, Sam Maltese, Drew Robertson, Borin Chea, Peter Arkwell, Kevin Fenwick and Jim Martin. The elimination stage of the tournament is race to 3, single knockout. The finals of the men’s division brought together 2 new faces to the winners circle, Nick Sledzion vs. Borin Chea, and in the end we crowned another “NEW” champion, Nick Sledzion.
Congratulations to Nick Sledzion and Maureen Van de Ven, our new champions of the Winter Lucasi Shootout, and to all who participated.
This tour will continue this summer, with the first event on June 16th at Big Wig’s in New Market. We will be posting the remaining details soon.
