Pascal Villeneuve Wins Eastern Canadian Bar Table 8-ball Open

Over 100 players from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and New York invaded Tailgators in Ottawa to see who would be crowned the first ever Eastern Canadian bar table 8-ball champion. This was a handicapped tourney so many matches were often going the distance which meant for lots of high pressure matches. The 2 feature tables in the pit area had spectators around them all weekend long. The first major upset saw Marina Linguerri former VNEA Las Vegas womens champion take out the ultra smooth John Morra who is widely recognised as Canada’s top player. She had to go to 6 and he 8 and she was victorious 8-7 in a nail biter.
Quebec has long been a pool hotspot and has produced some terrific bar table players. Two of them Pascal Villeneuve and Francis Crevier were cruising along the A side. Pascal knocked out Toronto legend Mario Morra to make to Sunday still undefeated . So Sunday brought back 8 players. On the A side Francis vs Chris Wood was the marquee matchup as well as Pascal vs Ying Yang from Montreal. On the B side Local legend Giorgio Giaccone was match up with Norm Pomainville from New York while Mario Morra was pitted against rising newcomer Andy Menke from Cornwall. Giorgio took out Norm to keep the Ottawa hopes alive and Andy upset Mario. Back on the A side Pascal beat Ying and Francis beat Chris to set up all Quebec A side final. Pascal played almost perfect running out everything in sight to take the hot seat. Meanwhile Ying Yang beat Giorgio and Chris Wood took out Andy. So now 4 remained. Chris Wood continued his precision 8-ball exhibition knocking out Ying in 4th and despite Chris’ heartbreak 8-7 loss to Francis earlier, many had him as the favourite in their rematch in the B side final. This never came true as Francis displayed an ultra high gear even making 2 incredible jump shots to get out of the little trouble he was in. Much respect to Chris who was a gentleman all weekend and won the fans over with his methodical and concise 8-ball game. Congrats on your 3rd place finish!
So the final was an all Quebec affair and it was break and run out pool as expected. Francis jumped to an early lead but in the end the super powerful and controlled game of Pascal was too much. He was a monster all week and took home the $5000 first place cheque and title of 1st ever Eastern Canadian bar table 8-ball champion.
