As 2015 was quickly coming to an end, there was lots of pool action all across Ontario. Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto held a very successful “36” 9-ball event, welcoming skilled players SL3 to SL6 to race to their handicap +1. Players were competing for a $2,000 prize pool, not include the Calcutta.
With many other tournaments and events in the west end and GTA today, Shooters had close to 60 players registering, but had to cap the field at 48 players in order to keep it a one-day event. Shooters would like to thank everyone that came out, and would also like to remind everyone to pre-register to avoid any disappointment.
Because of the similarity in skill level amongst the players, the tournament proved to be a highly competitive one. Many matches ended up hill-hill, and being decided by the final rack. After several matches, the A-side semi finals saw Chris Smith matched up with Waleed Mukhtar and Che Lemmon matched up with Tom Hogan. Waleed M and Tom H went on to win their matches and face each other in the A-side finals.
Tom Hogan defeated Waleed Mukhtar in the A-side finals 7-4 and was waiting in the hot seat for the winner of the B-side finals match between Waleed M and Chris Lee. Chris Lee’s outstanding shooting earned him a chance back into the A-side to face Tom Hogan in the tournament finals. This made for an unbelievable finals with both players on the hill. Tom H escaped the match 7-6 to claim the title, having gone undefeated throughout the day. Congratulations Tommy, it was a well-earned title, and honourable mention goes to Chris Lee for a hard fought finals match.
